چکیده

In patients with type 1 (T1D) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D), cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death, 45% and 52%, respectively. In particular, diabetes mellitus is associated with microand macrovascular complications resulting in coronary heart disease and increased morbidity and mortality. Similarly, patients with diabetes mellitus are at high risk for peripheral arterial disease characterized by symptoms of intermittent claudication or critical limb ischemia (CLI). These vascular complications include both qualitative and quantitative adjustments of the vascular architecture. In particular, the negative outcome of patient with diabetes mellitus is partly related to the abrogation of new vessel formation and remodeling of the pre-existing vasculature that represent an integral component of tissue remodeling and control the extent of ischemic injury. In addition, vascular dysfunction, mainly characterized by alteration of the mechanical properties of the arterial wall and functional disruption of the endothelium, is associated with diabetes mellitus and likely fuel the pathogenesis of vascular disease in T1D and T2D. Therefore, the present review focuses on the molecular mechanisms involved in the vascular defects associated with diabetes mellitus–induced postischemic vessel growth in the setting of myocardial infarction (MI) or CLI. Alterations in adult hippocampal neurogenesis, aberrant protein s-nitrosylation, and associated spatial memory loss in streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus type 2 mice

Objective(s): Epidemiological and biochemical studies conducted over the past two decades have established a strong link between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, the exact mechanisms through which aberrations in insulin signaling associated with T2DM contribute to cognitive decline are not yet known. Materials and Methods: In an effort to explore possible m...

Pterocarpus santalinus ameliorates streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus via anti-inflammatory pathways and enhancement of insulin function

Objective(s): Morbidity and mortality due to diabetes mellitus (DM) result in exorbitant psycho-economical costs, so there is a strong need to create new strategies and drugs for controlling DM. The aim of the current study was to investigate the anti-diabetic effect of the aqueous extract of Pterocarpus santalinus on streptozotocin (STZ)-induced DM as compared to glus...

Ensete superbum ameliorates renal dysfunction in experimental diabetes mellitus

Objective(s):Hyperglycemia mediated oxidative stress plays a key role in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications like nephropathy. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of ethanolic extract of Ensete superbum seeds (ESSE) on renal dysfunction and oxidative stress in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods:Glucose, HbA1c, total protein, albumin, renal function mar...

The Aqueous Extract of Portulaca Oleracea Ameliorates Neurobehavioral Dysfunction and Hyperglycemia Related to Streptozotocin-Diabetes Induced in Ovariectomized Rats

Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common causes of neuropathy. Although antioxidant and antidiabetic effects of the aqueous extract of purslane (Portulaca oleracea) (AEOP) have been demonstrated before by other researchers, we did not find any study that assessed the psychobiological effects of AEOP in diabetes induced animals. Thirty ovariectomized (OVX) female Wistar rats were randomly div...
